Part 1 Informative Write – What is your favorite animal and why is it
your favorite?
My favorite animal is a cat. No, not a wild cat, a domestic cat. They
are furry, cuddly and sweet. (For this sentence, see drawing below) I once
played with a soft, grey, declawed (poor kitty) cat and went home with red
bumps all over my face. (for this sentence see this part of the illustration)
We went to CVS, brought some allergy medicine, and took a big swig. It took
some minutes but HEAVEN! (FYI, I’m also allergic to dogs, dust, dust mites,
fungus spores and pollen)

Ms. Frizzle walked
quickly to the Bus and flew herself and the class to New York City to see the
Statue of Liberty.
Part 3 Use the sentence from
part 2 to create a story
Ms. Frizzle walked very quickly to the Bus. She threw open the door and
called ‘Field trip!” and the class burst out of the school and almost tripped
to get onto their whimsical vehicle. Ms. Frizzle slammed the door shut and
pressed the red button, at once the Bus transformed into an airplane. Ms.
Frizzle shouted, “Off to New York City!” Everyone cheered and they set off.
But then, they ran low on fuel 95% done of the trip. “Oh, No! “shouted
the kids. “I knew I should’ve stayed home today!” groan Arnold. “Fear not.” Said
Ms. Frizzle and she pushed another button that said: “Refill” and they had full
gas.
They flew over the ocean and finally, they found themselves hovering
only inches above the Statue of Liberty’s nose. Then Ms. Frizzle jerked a lever
and next moment, they found themselves the size of an atom. Then they stepped
out. “Ouch!” screamed Carlos. The kids had fallen 1 inch which is a long way to
go if you are the size of an atom, and found the sun had heated up the Statue
very hot. All over, they saw tumbling, wiggling copper atoms. They looked a bit
green. “According to my research, the center of an atom is called the nucleus.
And the blips that whiz around it are called electrons.” Stated D.A. “Excellent
observation, D.A.” said Ms. Frizzle.
They spent the field trip picking up atoms and studying them. Wanda,
Keesha and D.A. enlarged themselves to the size of a beetle, climbed down,
shrank back to atom size, and gathered some stone molecules from the pedestal
base. When they got back with the gangs they showed the class he made up of the
stone. “Cool!” exclaimed the kids. By then, Ms. Frizzle reported, “Time to go!”
Talking loudly, they climbed into the Bus, enlarged and flew back to school to
review what they had learned.
